Minimum Qualifications:

DMA in either conducting or an applied instrument with significant conducting experience (ABD considered with official documentation from advisor regarding the timeline for degree completion), minimum of 3 years K-12 teaching experience, strong commitment and track record in recruitment, evidence of successful teaching, and a commitment to a collegial/team-like approach to building a music department.

Preferred Qualifications:

College teaching experience, expertise in one or more of the following academic areas: music theory, music history, and/or music education methods courses.  Demonstrate ability to integrate technology into classroom instruction.

Summary of Work:

Dickinson State University seeks an energetic individual to join our team as Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Bands (tenure-track).  The Director of Bands will be responsible to provide leadership for the instrumental program, which includes the Concert Band, Pep Band, Jazz Ensemble, and possibly Marching Band.  He or she will also teach other courses in the department based on the candidate’s education and experience.  Other responsibilities will include: academic advising, recruitment, assisting with the coordination of the Northern Plains Music Festival, student teacher observation, supervision/maintenance of instrumental equipment/library, etc.  Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated performance and pedagogy in applied woodwinds or brass.  Dickinson State University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.  Contract begins August 16, 2013
