Summary of Work:
Dickinson State University’s Department of Fine & Performing Arts is looking for an exceptional artist and educator with evidence of successful undergraduate teaching to fill a full-time, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Art. The ideal candidate will be creative, innovative and energetic and have a broad range of experience with a variety of mediums. Candidates must enjoy working collaboratively in a small department that serves not only its majors and minors but as an integral part of the general education curriculum. Responsibilities include teaching painting and drawing classes, providing quality academic advising to students, participating in committee work and working collaboratively with colleagues and community arts supporters. An interest in also teaching one or more of the following is preferred: ceramics, graphic design, art education, 2D/3D design, and art history. The full teaching load is twelve credits per semester. The successful candidate will teach nine credits each semester with 3 additional credits of load time assigned to manage the University Art Gallery’s yearly exhibition series and budget, including a North Dakota Arts Council grant. Separate compensation for summer gallery management will be provided as needed.A terminal degree in Art from a regionally accredited institution and college teaching experience is required. An MFA is preferred, a PhD in Art History will be considered. K-12 teaching certification, administrative skills and competency with new technologies are also preferred.
