Minimum Qualifications:

Requires completion of a two‑year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology from a qualified technical school. Six years of work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity to those to be performed and on vehicles and equipment like those to be serviced may be substituted for the educational requirement. ASE certification required in eight areas with at least two in auto and two in medium/heavy truck, or a Master Certification in either auto or medium/heavy truck. Copy of final college transcript must be provided with application.

Successful applicant must provide required tools on the date of hire. List of required tools is available from the district office.

Selected applicant must reside within 45 minutes travel time to the district headquarters within 60 days from the date of hire.

Employee hired must have a valid Class B driver’s permit with air brakes with a cargo tanker endorsement the first day of work. The employee will then have 30 calendar days to take the behind-the-wheel exam and get the class B driver’s license with air brakes and with a cargo-tank endorsement. The district will make the equipment available for the employee to practice driving during these 30 days. Prior to the completion of the probationary period, the employee must have possession of a Class A driver’s license with air brakes and with a cargo-tanker endorsement.

Use of phone, tools and power equipment, computer diagnosis equipment; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and others; normal vision and hearing; manual dexterity; mobility compatibility within the shop setting.

Extended periods of standing with frequent stretching, stooping and bending; demonstrated ability to lift up to 70 pounds; ability to manipulate heavy objects that weigh approximately 200 pounds on wheeled dollies; demonstrated ability to function around vehicular and maintenance traffic; safety training will be provided.

Demonstrated ability to accurately and clearly complete required paperwork; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to remain calm and maintain focus under demanding and often conflicting work schedules with rapid shifts in priority. May require work after hours, on weekends, and holidays during road and weather emergencies.

Demonstrated knowledge of industry practices, principles, standards, and guidelines.

Work is normally performed in the shop, occasional travel to repair a vehicle on the road.

Requires satisfactory completion of the interview process and a verifiable record of satisfactory performance in previous employment.

Employment is contingent upon successful passing of the medical screening process.

Summary
of Work:
-
Repair all heavy and light duty truck and equipment engines: troubleshoot, maintain, and repair diesel and gas engines, including electronic and conventional. Emphasis will be placed on troubleshooting and repair of electronic diesel engines with use of laptop computer and appropriate software; engine in-frame and out-of-frame overhaul, and engine replacement, ability to read and fully understand service literature from various manufacturers. Approximately 30 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Diagnosis and repair all types of hydraulic and air-brake systems. Approximately 15 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Diagnosis and repair of all types of electrical systems and computer related sensors and wiring, including multiplex systems and strobe type and LED type emergency lighting systems. Approximately 10 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Diagnosis and repair or replace clutches, manual transmissions, differentials, axles, diagnose and repair air shift transmissions, and troubleshoot and repair PTO problems. Approximately 5 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Repair or replacement of suspension and steering components on all types of equipment. Approximately 10 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Test and repair electronically controlled and conventional hydraulic systems, both open and closed center. Approximately 10 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Fabricating, cutting, welding: repair or replace guards, drive shafts, gear boxes, mounting brackets, straightening or reinforcing broken or weak parts. Approximately 5 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Repair of minor equipment: repair and adjustments to small motorized equipment, both 4 cycle and 2 cycle. Perform tune-ups as required. Repair and replacement of tires on occasion. Approximately 5 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

Keep work area and shop clean and neat. Assist with building upkeep and repair. Assist with snow removal and mowing in district headquarters. Approximately 5 percent of the time is spent on this duty.

10.Complete online equipment repair orders in our fleet management system. Read and comprehend written and online repair and parts manuals. Complete time sheets and other forms as necessary. Use assigned email account. This function requires good basic computer skills. Approximately 5 percent of the time is spent on this duty.
