Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program with a current RN license.
  • Minimum of two years nursing experience in a hospital and clinic setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of CPT, HCPC and ICD-9 coding. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred.
  • Knowledge of pathophysiology, disease process and anatomy for relatedness and appropriate care for the work injury.
  • Ability to work effectively, professionally, and courteously with others both internal and external to the organization.
  • Ability to effectively use PC software applications.
  • Must be dependable, organized, self motivated, resourceful, and flexible.
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

Summary of Work:

  1. Reviews medical bills to determine relatedness of the charge(s) and appropriateness of care.
  2. Reviews inpatient and outpatient hospital bills to determine medical necessity of services and supplies.
  3. Assist adjuster in appropriateness of medications, medical and surgical treatments, lab procedure, Home Health Care and medical equipment.
  4. Reviews and applies appropriate Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), International Classification of Diseases (ICD-9) and Health Care Common Procedure Coding System (HCPC) codes for services rendered.
  5. Provides and receives information for the department in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner.
  6. Communicates effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing.
  7. Ensures appropriate information and fee scheduling of all instate and out-of-state bills reviewed.
