Minimum Qualifications:

Licensure or eligibility for licensure or registration in North Dakota and two years of health care experience as a pharmacist, physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist or registered nurse; or must have received a passing score on the National Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test.  Preference will be given to registered nurses.  Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are necessary.  Individuals must have a valid driver’s license or have the ability to travel from one location to another within the state on their own.

Summary of Work:

Surveyors work as a team throughout North Dakota to determine health care facilities compliance with state and federal regulations by conducting on-site surveys and evaluating the care provided.  Surveyors observe the care provided; interview facility staff, family members and patients; and review records to determine the quality of the care provided.  Primary assignment will be to survey long-term care facilities in North Dakota.

The surveyor positions offer the opportunity to work and travel throughout North Dakota with a multidisciplinary team of professionals.  Surveyors generally work four 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, and have weekends and holidays off.  Surveyors travel approximately 60 percent of the time.  Travel does require consecutive nights away from home.  A state car is provided for travel.  Surveyors may be selected to work from their own homes after one year of experience as a surveyor.
