Minimum Qualifications:

BA/BS in education with credential in hearing loss and speech therapy (experience working with deaf/hard of hearing) and teacher certification in North Dakota or ability to obtain; experience as deaf education teacher preferable; sign language skills preferred or willingness to learn; organizational skills; planning skills; computer skills (word processing); willingness to obtain certification in Early Childhood.

All applications must be submitted on State of North Dakota Application for Employment Form (SFN 10950). This is a 10-month position annually. If claiming Veteran’s Preference or Spouses’ Veteran’s Preference, as described in ND Century Code 37-19.1, please submit proof of eligibility (Form DD-214) with application.

The finalist for the position will be subject to state and federal criminal background checks, which includes fingerprinting.

Summary of Work:

  1. Knowledge of and ability to recommend appropriate methods and techniques regarding students with hearing loss. 
  2. Ability to assist in the implementation of recommendations regarding hearing loss. 
  3. Knowledge of child development. 
  4. Plan and provide direct and consultation services, technical assistance, including in-services, assessments, presentations, classes, professional development needs, and resources to local education agencies, service clubs, and other groups in all areas that pertain to hearing impairment.
  5. Provide home based services for young deaf and hard of hearing children, birth to three, and their families. 
  6. Provide technical assistance to individuals with deaf-blindness.
  7. Develop IFSP’s and IEP’s and maintain records. 
  8. Enjoy working individually and as a team. 

The North Dakota School for the Deaf has been serving deaf and hard of hearing children in North Dakota since 1890. The school provides a comprehensive program including traditional academic offerings, vocational education, special studies, physical education, and art. Further educational opportunities are presented through the residential, athletic, and recreational programs. The school follows the standard school year with children going home every weekend, during established school vacations, and during summer months.

The school also sponsors a comprehensive outreach program which includes summer recreational and leadership programs for deaf and hard of hearing youth, parent/infant programming, assessment and evaluation services, sign language instruction, interpreting workshops, resource materials, professional workshops, and consultation services.
