Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education with special education certification in MR, EMH, ED  or a bachelor’s degree in Special Education in MR, EMH, or ED.
  • Valid North Dakota teaching certificate.
  • Ability to communicate with the deaf using various modes of communication including sign language and fingerspelling or willingness to learn sign language.
  • Knowledge of deaf culture preferred.

The North Dakota School for the Deaf has been serving deaf and hard of hearing children in North Dakota since 1890. The school provides a comprehensive program including traditional academic offerings, vocational education, special studies, physical education, and art. Further educational opportunities are presented through the residential, athletic, and recreational programs. The school follows the standard school year with children going home every weekend, during established school vacations, and during summer months.

The school also sponsors a comprehensive outreach program which includes summer recreational and leadership programs for deaf and hard of hearing youth, parent/infant programming, assessment and evaluation services, sign language instruction, interpreting workshops, resource materials, professional workshops, and consultation services.

Devils Lake, located in the northeastern corner of North Dakota approximately 60 miles from the Canadian border, is located on beautiful Devils Lake with its 300 miles of shoreline. The Lake Region is known throughout the Midwest for its many hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreational opportunities. In addition, Devils Lake and the State of North Dakota afford a quality of life ideal for the family.
