Minimum Qualifications:

Requires a high school diploma or GED.

Three years of work experience in clerical support duties that included the use of personal computer database software and the maintenance of a specialized records system.College level coursework may be substituted for up to two years of the required work experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Required to attend training and obtain the appropriate license in the operation of communications equipment utilized in performing the assigned duties.

Must have a passing score on the fingerprint exam administered by the Bureau of Criminal Investigation Division of the Office of Attorney General.

Satisfactory completion of the 40‑hour FBI basic fingerprint identification course or completion of an equivalent fingerprint course is preferred.

One year of experience as an operator of an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) computer with a professionally recognized identification bureau is preferred.

Two years’ experience in fingerprint identification and classification is preferred.

Ability to use and understand a personal computer and technical software.

Demonstrated ability to communicate tactfully and with emphasis on customer service.

Must have excellent prioritization, time management, and organization skills.
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious working relationships with co-workers and supervisors.

Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Display interpersonal skills in dealing with customers and co-workers, utilize appropriate telephone etiquette, demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills, and demonstrate ability to perform standard office tasks and operate standard office equipment.

Summary
of Work:
-
Conduct criminal and non-criminal justice records checks utilizing secured access to state and national level criminal history database files. This activity comprises approximately 90 percent of this position’s time.

Contact law enforcement agencies, state’s attorneys’ offices, and clerks of court to obtain accurate and complete criminal history record information.

Enter and update statewide criminal records maintained in the computerized criminal history database.

Assist in maintaining a variety of manual and computerized information systems by receiving, inputting, editing, and purging file data as required.

Respond to routine inquiries for information and/or documents through verbal and written communication.
-
Examine fingerprint patterns and classify prints according to the approved fingerprint classification system and visual fingerprint comparison techniques.

Operate the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) workstation for entry, search, and comparison of electronic fingerprint images.\

Participate in in-state and out-of-state training seminars on fingerprint examination and related topics.
