Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q. What does Human Resource Management Services do?

A. We provide a wide range of Human Resources services to North Dakota State employees and managers, including HR consulting, mediation, training, and Classification/Compensation expertise and guidance. Please take a few minutes and peruse our website, to see what all goes on at Human Resource Management Services!

Q. When I apply for a job somewhere in North Dakota State Government, do I bring my state job application form, resumes, etc., to your office?

A. No. The correct thing to do with your applications, etc., is follow the instructions on the job announcement or advertisement where you learned about the job. Those instructions will tell you where to send or deliver your application, what the deadline is, and other important information about the position. We DO have a listing of all state jobs on our website, as well as those same jobs posted in our lobby on 14th floor of the Capitol Building. Also, don't forget to check the Job Service North Dakota website.

Q. I see that you have lots of training programs. Can a private citizen sign up for them?

A. Our training programs are designed to be delivered to state employees (and in some cases, city and county employees). We are not able to invite private citizens.

Q. I work for a private employer. Where can I find out about things like overtime, discrimination, and other issues about work and the law?

A. One of the best resources for you would probably be the ND Department of Labor. They have current knowledge and are responsible for enforcing state labor standards laws. Additionally, the department's Human Rights Division enforces state employment discrimination laws, as well as related federal employment discrimination laws under a work sharing agreement with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
