State Employees: Training Classes for ND State Employees

The Supervisor As a Coach

Course Contents

Coaching involves the informal, day-to-day communication between employees and their supervisor. It also sustains employee performance through changes and challenges in the workplace, but it involves a much different skill set than managing. A coach can identify an employee not only has the ability to execute a task, but also the motivation and commitment to meet expectations.

During the training day we expect participants to discover what coach skills are crucial to department goals and identify action plans to enhance the employee’s skill development process. Coaching is an off-shoot skill of leading through effective feedback with your employees, but it’s nowhere near the skill of managing. Do you possess the coaching and leading skill set?
