SYSTEMS MECHANIC
Scope of Work:
Work involves installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems following applicable standards and specifications.
Duties Performed at all Levels:
- Adjust, service, and maintain refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and ventilating equipment and controls.
- Operate, repair, or maintain power plant equipment.
- Operate the equipment, tools, and diagnostic devices of the trade.
- Maintain records on repair work completed.

SYSTEMS MECHANIC I (8261)
Grade 8*
Level Definition:
Individuals at this level perform routine work in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, refrigeration, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and/or power plant equipment. Work is performed under close supervision of a higher level Systems Mechanic, Maintenance Supervisor, or Physical Plant Director.
Additional Duties Performed at this Level:

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or GED.
SYSTEMS MECHANIC II (8262)
Grade 10*
Level Definition:
Individuals at this level perform work independently and may supervise other systems mechanics or maintenance workers as required. Work is considered as journey level.
Additional Duties Performed at this Level:
- Inspect, adjust, and/or repair problems and conduct operational tests within the applicable system.
- Diagnose problems and provide corrective recommendations and estimated costs.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records.
- May assist other trades as needed.
- May supervise lower level workers and/or relay instructions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or GED and three years of work experience in the maintenance and repair of heating plant equipment, water treatment program, heating and ventilation equipment and/or air conditioning systems. College coursework in a field related to position responsibilities may substitute for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.
SYSTEMS MECHANIC III (8263)
Grade 11*
Level Definition:
Individuals at this level perform supervisory activity in the installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC Systems and/or power plant systems.
Additional Duties Performed at this Level:
- Plan, assign, and review duties of subordinate workers and evaluate performance.
- Establish systems and equipment inspection procedures; frequency of inspections; evaluate inspection findings.
- Establish service, troubleshooting, and repair procedures.
- Establish HVAC systems and equipment operating instructions to include starting and stopping procedures, adjustment and regulation, and seasonal changeover procedures.
- Oversee and perform installation and modifications, repairs, and operational tests.
- Inspect projects and work for compliance with plans and specifications.
- Analyze requests for systems work to be done, recommend appropriate system, and select proper equipment and material.
- Prepare estimates for systems installation, overhaul, or repair.
- Coordinate work with other trades and management.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a high school diploma or GED and four years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems and/or heating plant systems. One year of experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.
