MEDICAL SERVICES DIRECTOR (4613)
WORKFORCE SAFETY AND INSURANCE
Grade 15*
Scope of Work:
Work involves directing the staff and activities of the Medical Services Department which includes the medical director, utilization review, medical bill review, impairment auditing and rating, and provider relations.
Duties Performed:
- Select, train, and supervise staff; develop and implement department and individual work standards and performance measures.
- Develop and monitor department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; provide interpretation or explanation of policies and procedures relating to department services; ensure compliance with related laws and rules.
- Develop and monitor the department budget.
- Monitor and update the medical fee schedule.
- Prepare, negotiate, and manage service contracts.
- Develop and propose legislation and administrative rules, provide legislative testimony.
- Resolve complex department issues with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in various committees.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a business or healthcare related field and five years of professional-level work experience in a healthcare or medical insurance related field that included supervision of staff and management of budgets.
Eff. Date: 4/10 – State Personnel Board action on 2/25/10 directed creating a separate class at grade 15 which is a paygrade exception.
