LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST (4164-5)
Scope of Work:
Individuals assigned to positions in this series provide a broad array of psychological services for patients/clients involving complex cases requiring advanced clinical skills or expertise. These services include psychological testing and evaluations, consultation, and individual, marital, family, and group psychotherapy and counseling.
Duties Performed at all Levels:
- Provide clinical supervision and training to Psychologist Residents and License Exempt Psychologists I and II in regard to all psychological evaluations.
- Review records and interview patients/clients and staff to evaluate and diagnose behaviors or disorders.
- Select, administer, score, interpret, and analyze results of psychological testing.
- Compile data; prepare and present reports of psychological evaluation.
- Provide clinical treatment recommendations.
- Collaborate with other staff in developing treatment programs and plans.
- Determine, develop, administer, monitor, evaluate, and modify treatment programs and plans to effect proper behavior adjustments.
- Observe patients/clients in therapeutic activity.
- Provide necessary documentation to insure effective follow-up treatment and progress.
- Serve as a psychological consultant to individuals, families, staff, and social, educational, welfare and other agencies on individual cases, psychological evaluations or treatment plans.
- Provide case management services to patients/clients.
- Participate in diagnostic and treatment conferences.
- Provide community and staff education services.
- Serve as an expert witness in court-related legal activities.
- Assist in the design and/or implementation of program needs and clinical research studies.
- May develop experimental designs and conduct research projects in personality development and adjustment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental and emotional disorders.
- May supervise Licensed Psychologists I, Psychologist Residents, License Exempt Psychologists I and II, master’s level interns, and practicum students.
- May train and direct other specialists and support personnel on a psychiatric unit.

LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST I (4164)
Grade 15
Level Definition:
Individuals at this level generally perform duties independently in providing direct psychological services to patients/clients including psychotherapy, testing, evaluations, and consultations.
Additional Duties Performed at this Level:
- None.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Doctorate in Psychology and licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Psychologist by the ND Board of Psychologist Examiners, according to North Dakota Century Code Chapter 43-32.
LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST II (4165)
Grade 16
Level Definition:
Individuals at this level generally provide administrative, programmatic, and clinical supervision of psychology staff and services for a department, unit, or agency; or may provide clinical leadership in the coordination, planning, development, and delivery of psychological services for a department, unit, or agency.
Additional Duties Performed at this Level:
- Provide or direct the administrative and clinical supervision of psychology staff including Psychologists I and II, Psychologist Residents, License Exempt Psychologists I and II, master’s level interns, and practicum students.
- Approve diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment plans.
- Develop and/or modify policies and procedures.
- Ensure psychological services are delivered consistent with the standards of various agencies.
- Determine, develop, administer, monitor, evaluate, and modify psychological services.
- Design, develop, and direct clinical treatment plans and programs.
- Provide clinical leadership to staff, unit, agency, and community programs.
- Supervise patient/client care.
- May prepare budgets and monitor expenditures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Doctorate in Psychology and licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Psychologist by the ND Board of Psychologist Examiners, according to North Dakota Century Code Chapter 43-32, and two years experience as a Licensed Psychologist.
