IMPAIRMENT AUDITOR (3067)
WORKFORCE SAFETY AND INSURANCE
Grade 11
Scope of Work:
Work involves determining compensation due injured workers with permanent physical loss of a body part or function as a result of a compensable work-related injury.
Duties Performed:
- Review and interpret medical documentation to make determination on status of maximal medical improvement (MMI) and/or level of potential impairment per guides to determine entitlement to an impairment evaluation.
- Review, analyze, evaluate, and critique impairment evaluation reports in accordance with American Medical Association Guides for prior work-related injuries and impairment ratings.
- Calculate overall impairment rating and level of compensation in conjunction with potential impairment.
- Correspond and request clarification with evaluating physicians when errors are identified.
- Document findings, calculations, and determine overall rating to be awarded and submit data for legal award and payment; summarize and communicate determinations to claims staff, legal staff, and injured workers’ attorneys.
- Defend determinations, decisions, and calculations to advocates and defense and prosecution staff in cases that are appealed or challenged.
- Review, investigate, and analyze complex medical claims and provide medical interpretation on the medical conditions, diagnostic data, and impairment to injured workers and claims and legal staff.
- Educate claims and legal staff on issues and information regarding impairment.
- Develop, maintain, and report impairment related data.
- Analyze and review administrative rules and laws regarding impairment issues and recommend changes to legal staff.
- Assist legal and executive staff in the development of impairment rating scales.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse by the North Dakota Board of Nursing and three years of professional-level work experience in a medical, surgical, rehabilitation, or a closely related field.
