HISTORIC IMPACT EMERGENCY FUNDS AWARDED
BY STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF NORTH DAKOTA
BISMARCK – The State Historical Society of North Dakota (SHSND) has received approval from the North Dakota Emergency Commission to make available $30,000 from the state history agency’s Historic Impact Emergency Fund to the City of Northwood, North Dakota following the tornado that struck the city in August 2007.
Historic Impact Emergency Funds can be used in the restoration, stabilization, and protection of historic and archaeological properties. This money can only be used on properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places or are certified eligible by the North Dakota State Historic Preservation Office and are located in the City of Northwood.
Publically owned buildings were given priority in the selection process and all applications were rated on the following criteria: archaeological, architectural and historic significance of the property, the nature and degree of threat to the property, long term plans of the property, benefit to the community, ability to complete project successfully and the ability to secure matching funds.
The City of Northwood was awarded a grant of $10,000 to assist in the replacement of windows on the Northwood Pioneer Museum.
The Linwell House, located at 316 South Raymond Street, was awarded a grant of $10,000 to assist in the repairs to the front porch. The house has been listed in the National
Register of Historic Places since 1980.
