North Dakota Remembers World War II

- North Dakota Remembers World War II features a selection of the more than 1,200 interviews collected through the North Dakota Veterans History Project coordinated by the State Historical Society of North Dakota (SHSND). Presenting stories of North Dakotans, representing all branches of the armed forces and experiences worldwide, the exhibit also features World War II-era uniforms, medals, photographs and other artifacts related to personal experiences in the war.

Emigrants from the Empires: North Dakota's Germans
- Through December 31, 2006
- This exhibit investigates what it means to be German in North Dakota before and after both world wars. Artifacts, photographs, and documents help to tell the story of who they are, how and why they emigrated, and how their culture and traditions still thrive in North Dakota.
Hall of Honors
The USS North Dakota and Nautical North Dakota
- Opened January 6, 2003
- Featuring photographs and objects associated with the USS North Dakota battleship, this permanent exhibit was made possible by the recent donation of many related items collected by Cleo Moore, a Bismarck resident and volunteer at the North Dakota Heritage Center since 1989. The exhibit also includes objects and images about other vessels with North Dakota ties, such as the Gurke, named after Medal of Honor recipient Henry F. Gurke of Neche, N.D., the Devils Lake, the George A. Custer, and the Arikara.
Recent Digs and recent accessions
- No closing date.
- Mini-exhibits featuring recent paleontological and archeological finds in North Dakota, as well as objects that have been recently donated to the SHSND. Recent Digs spans time from the age of the dinosaurs to the life of the Northern Plains Indian, and is sponsored by the North Dakota Geological Survey and the SHSND. Recent Acquisitions features a selection of recently donated objects to the SHSND's collections. An annual project done by SHSND interns, the Recent Acquisitions exhibit features a 2003 Grand Forks Air Force Base flight suit, 1984 Williams County voting equipment, and a 1932 toaster used in Fargo.
