| This is a well pointed kitchen from a prosperous community from about 1880-1910. It has a mixture of old and new. Starting on the left an 1880's Hoosier cupboard with pull-out work surface complete with bread box and floor sifter. To the right is a modern pantry, with coffee grinder and storage units. Below it is the kindle for the 1880's cook stove, which is supporting some modern granite wear: coffee pot and pitcher. The copper boiler on the floor was a common way to warm the water for the daily chore of laundry. Next is the ice box. It was filled every couple of days to keep the butter and milk from spoiling. Finally, stands the updated version of the previous Hoosier cupboard with same features. |
