North Dakota GIS Conference 2007: Presentations

USGS Geospatial Activities and Updates

Presented by: Ron Wencl, USGS NSDI Geospatial Liaison, US Geological Survey

» Presentation (3.9Mb pdf)

The USGS National Geospatial Program Office (NGPO), created in August 2004, oversees the portfolio of national geospatial programs that are housed within the USGS and managed on behalf of the Federal Government. This portfolio includes the Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC), the Geospatial One-Stop (GOS) project and The National Map. The primary purpose of the NGPO is to advance the development of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) for the Nation.

There are numerous updates for NSDI activities including recent developments in data, such as the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD), the National Elevation Dataset (NED), and other programs managed by the USGS. There are also additional changes in the NSDI Partnership Office Liaison Network and the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center (NGTOC) within the USGS Geospatial Information Office (GIO).

Ron Wencl, USGS NSDI Geospatial Liaison for North Dakota will provide an update on USGS activities of potential interest.
