Map@Syst is a web-based program designed to provide geospatial technology education and resources to local decision makers for addressing community, agricultural, and environmental issues. It is conducted through the national eXtension Initiative (http://about.extension.org). This is a portal to the nation's largest educational and information system, branded with individual land-grant university extension systems. The first year (2008) objective is to work closely with state and local government and municipality officials. In succeeding years Map@Syst will target other groups including youth, natural resource managers, and agricultural producers. Specific topics addressed through these education efforts will include business and community planning, land use planning, 4-H and youth development, public health and safety, natural resources and environment, homeland security, disaster management, and agricultural production and efficiency. Map@Syst outputs to will include: 1) how-to guides on using geospatial technologies, 2) fact sheets, 3) frequently asked questions, and 4) Ask the Expert. Map@Syst success depends on two-way interaction between the University community of practice and end users. This session will describe Map@Syst and outline ways that geospatial technology end users can actively participate in Map@Syst.
