North Dakota GIS Conference 2007: Presentations

GIS and CAD Working Together - ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS and AutoCAD

Presented by: Aaron Norby, PLS, Geographic Information Systems, Kadrmas Lee and Jackson, Inc.

GIS and CAD have been moving closer together for several years. With each new release of AutoCAD or version of ArcGIS, new tools appear for users that work in both environments. But now more than ever before, the CAD and GIS are working together with new tools at the 9.2 SP3 release of ArcGIS. ArcGIS Server, Geodatabases, and new tools from ESRI for use in AutoCAD using map services from ArcGIS Server will be discussed and demonstrated.

ArcGIS Server not only provides maps and web services to ArcGIS, but now allows AutoCAD users to connect to map services and use the map in AutoCAD. Core CAD support to the Geodatabase, including users defined CAD feature classes and new tools for transfer from CAD to GIS and GIS to CAD will also be shown. Also being discussed is additional functionality that allows AutoCAD to perform Geoprocessing Services and Data Transactions inside AutoCAD on Geodatabase CAD feature classes of the Geodatabase at ArcGIS 9.3.
