Rolette County selected a software provider for their E911 dispatch system which resulted in the need for an updated and accurate road centerline layer. The County had several options to consider for development of this layer. However, the need to utilize purchased hardware and software, and start the development of a County GIS program was a priority.
Houston Engineering was contacted and an approach was formulated that met this need by providing technical services to the County in data collection, data development and training staff in the use of GIS software. The assistance in data collection and development services followed the standards set forth by the GISTC (GIS Technical Committee) Centerline Development Report. The training focused only on those tools necessary for capturing data and developing the road centerline layer.
This presentation will focus on the project highlights including expenditures, benefits and obstacles the County experienced.
