The management of very high quality E-911 GIS data for the State of Nebraska used in map based dispatch-mapping systems is a daunting task. For all 93 counties, with a minimum of 10 GIS layers per county, the Nebraska Public Service Commission manages the collection, QA/QC, and distribution of over 1000 GIS layers. In addition, NPSC provides overall project management and direction to vendors and county clients. The NPSC recognized the need for a centralized data management solution. NPSC contracted with long-time partner GIS Workshop to design, develop, and implement a custom ESRI ArcIMS GIS project management portal with the ability to accept GIS data from vendors, perform some automated QA/QC, and make these same data available for download to clients as necessary. This password-protected, ArcIMS web-based GIS repository has the advantage of providing NPSC management with the ability to view GIS data and project progress for the entire state down to the individual street level.
