Presented by: Damion Knudsen, North Dakota State University Environmental and Conservation Sciences Program and Dakota Technologies, Inc. in Fargo, North Dakota.

Across many fields is the need for the 3-D visualization of subsurface data. With the popularity of Google Earth becoming mainstream it would appear the public is becoming more aware of the ability and usefulness of 3-D data sets. ESRI ArcGIS and ArcScene can be used in the construction, viewing, and querying of 3-D subsurface data such as contaminant distributions, petroleum reservoirs, geology, sediment classification, archeological sites, and mining operations. A few subsurface models from North Dakota will be presented and the future of 3-D GIS will be discussed.
