Fire Danger Index Map Now Available
The North Dakota rangeland fire danger index information from the National Weather Service is presented on color and black and white maps. Counties are color coded according to their fire danger index value.
The Fire Danger Guide that is accessible from the same site states, "The Fire Danger Index, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), serves as a guide to reduce the number of uncontrollable outdoor fires. The index is an indication of rural fire potential throughout the state and provides citizens with needed information about fire safety conditions." The Fire Danger Guide lists guidelines and restrictions for outdoor activities such as open burning, fireworks, and off-road motorized travel with respect to the fire index.
