North Dakota Hub is part of the Geospatial One-Stop Portal - July 2003

The Office of Management and Budget and the Interior Department on June 30 launched the Geospatial One-Stop portal which is a step toward consolidating geospatial data from federal, state and local agencies. This portal is a web-based tool for searching for data and web mapping services. More information can be found at www.esri.com/news/arcnews/summer03articles/geospatial-onestop.html .

Data from the North Dakota GIS Hub is used by the portal. For example, click on the "Search all the data in this site" on the left. In the new window enter in "north dakota" for the keywords, then click Search. North Dakota metadata with links to the actual data is displayed.

As another example, back on the main page click on North Dakota on the map. A new window pops up. Draw a zoom box around North Dakota to get zoomed in to the state. Click on the plus sign on the icon bar (black plus on yellow background, the tooltip is 'Add Services'). From the pulldown list in the "Look in geodata.gov Internet Server list" select North Dakota. Click OK. Now from the list select the service you'd like to add on top of the existing map, for example select GeolBedrock, then click Add, wait a moment, then click Close on the Add Service window. Now, back in the main map window you will see in the layer list on the left a new item titled, "GeolBedrock." Put a check mark on this then click Refresh Map at the bottom of the screen to add the data to the map.
