Download Data - Metadata Explorer

Use the Metadata Explorer tool to discover then download data. Please note that at this time only vector data can be downloaded. The Metadata Explorer is used to search or browse for data that you are interested in. For searching, you have the ability to search a region within the state (draw a search box), search by content type (e.g., Downloadable Data), search by content theme (e.g., Environmental), or by keyword (e.g., devils lake). For browsing, you have several categories to choose from, e.g., "Downloadable GIS Hub Data," "Feature Data Services," etc.

If you wish to download data after searching for it, then select 'Downloadable Data' from the Choose Content Type list when searching. Or, after a search has completed, select the Downloadable Data link (if present) under the 'Type of Content Shown on This Page' sub-title near the top of the page. If you wish to download data after browsing for it, then click on the Browse tab below the "metadata explorer" title, then click on the Downloadable GIS Hub Data link on the left. The data is organized by various categories.

Once you have found the data you wish to download, click on the link that follows "Content Title" if you are viewing a list of data sets. If you have clicked on the "View Details" button of a data set in the list, then click on the link that follows the "Title of Content" in the Content Citation section of the metadata. Please note that if you need more detailed metadata information, while in the details section of the metadata (you clicked on the "View Details" button to get there), scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the "View Full Metadata" button to open another browser window containing FGDC metadata.

When you click on either the "Content Title" or the "Title of Content" links, a new browser window will open giving you the steps for downloading the data in a data format and coordinate system of your choosing. Please note that the downloaded data will be at its full extents. If you wish to clip your data extents to a rectangular area, then please view the Download Data - Hub Explorer section below.

When the data has been processed and is ready for you to download, you will be sent an email to the address that you specified in the order form. That email will contain a link to a ZIP file that contains your data, along with FGDC-compliant metadata file or files with a .txt suffix.
