Finding And Obtaining Data From The GIS Hub

Vector and raster data stored on the GIS Hub can be downloaded using the Hub Data Portal which is the primary application for finding and downloading data or the Hub Explorer. If you are looking for data access via web services then click here.

Download Vector & Raster Data with the GIS Hub Data Portal

Use the Hub Data Portal to discover then download data. The Hub Data Portal is used to search or browse for data that you are interested in. For searching, you have the ability to search a region within the state (select an area of interest), search by search by a general term (e.g., road), or by keyword (e.g., “boundaries”). For browsing, you have several categories to choose from which are based on framework layer types.

Once you have found the data you wish to download, click on the More Information button that is associated with each dataset. Scroll down a bit to the Transfer Options section, and if the data is available for downloading, there will be a link beginning with “Download”. For example, “Download Mile Markers”.

When the data has been processed and is ready for you to download, you will be sent an email to the address that you specified in the order form. That email will contain a link to a ZIP file that contains your data, along with FGDC-compliant metadata file or files with a .txt suffix.

Download Vector Data with the Hub Explorer

Use the Hub Explorer to first preview then download data. Please note that at this time only vector data can be downloaded. Multiple layers can be downloaded at one time in a format and coordinate system of your choosing. The data can be clipped to the extents of the current view, selected item, a drawn shape, or it can be downloaded at its full extent.

We recommend that you first view the data that you plan to download to help ensure it is what you want to download. To download the data, click on the Extract Data menu item to start a wizard that will walk you through the necessary steps.

When the data has been processed and is ready for you to download, you will be sent an email to the address that you specified in the data extract wizard. That email will contain a link to a ZIP file that contains your data, along with FGDC-compliant metadata file or files with a .txt suffix.
