ArcView 3.x Direct Connect

If you are using ArcView version 3.3 or higher, you will first need to add a line to the services and hosts files. These are located in the c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc directory. You may need your system administrator to perform this work.

An example of the Services file is shown below. Please note that the "hub_port" name is an example only. You can use whatever name you wish. However, you will need to use that name in the "SQL Query Wizard" window that is described later in this help section. Please note that the "5151/tcp" is a valid name, though there may be other databases and therefore other instance numbers. Please contact us for more information.

An example of the Hosts file is shown below. Please note that the IP address shown for the NDHub server on the last line is an example only. Please contact us to obtain the IP address of the Hub server.

Add the "Database Access" extension. From the File menu dropdown, choose extensions and go through the list to find Database Access and add a check mark in front of it. (Database Access is a standard extension included with ArcView 3.x)
