Current Status

The North Dakota GIS Hub is nearing completion. The core of the Hub, the database, has been in production since July. State agencies and those who are behind the state firewall have been using the database with success and others who are behind the firewall are more than welcome. If interested, please contact Bob Nutsch at 701-328-3212 or gis@state.nd.us.
The web part of the database, is nearly ready for production. At this time, we are awaiting an upgrade to the production web servers. A bug was found during load testing that is resolved by a patch to the web server. After the upgrade, we are ready to move the Hub web components to production. We are making use of this downtime to make some minor changes to the Hub Explorer, the main tool for browsing, viewing, and printing Hub data, the new web site, and the Metadata Explorer, the tool used for finding data.
Although vector data can be extracted from the Hub using the web, the planned data extraction tool of choice will not be immediately available, as the configuration and customization required will take some time, and we wanted the rest of the Hub Explorer to be available as soon as possible. The ability of the Hub to “stream” features over the web, should fill in while we await the vector data extraction tool. This delivery of data features over the web allows one to hit the Hub web server, and select the data set(s) they wish to display in ArcMap. This data can then be symbolized as the user wishes. The data can also be saved to a shapefile. The ability to download raster data will be evaluated later this year.
The GIS Technical Committee plans to offer a number of informal training seminars, starting in Bismarck, to assist all interested parties in learning how to best utilize the Hub.
