Memorandum
TO: Full GIS Technical Committee
DATE: September 28, 2007
FROM: Bob Nutsch
SUBJECT: Minutes of September 11, 2007 Full GIS Technical Committee meeting
Held in conjunction with the 2007 North Dakota GIS Users Conference, the Full GIS Technical Committee (GISTC) meeting was held on Tuesday, September 11 with approximately 52 people from various levels of government, higher education, and private enterprise in attendance. The purpose of this meeting was to provide an opportunity for the Executive GISTC to share the accomplishments, current work, and goals with the larger Full GISTC. The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Full GISTC to give guidance and provide suggestions to the Executive GISTC.
The meeting started at 1:15 PM beginning with the Executive Committee Report submitted by Bob Nutsch. Presentation 1 (346kb pdf)
Ann F. from the Department of Health provided an update on the Hydrologic Unit Boundary definition. Presentation 2 (908kb pdf)
Rod B. from the State Water Commission provided an update on the aquifer update program.
Discussion Points:
- Geographic Coordinate Database (GCDB)
- There was some discussion on the status of GCDB in the state.
- North Dakota is now complete. The status graphic and other information can be found at www.nd.gov/gis/resources/gisnd/gcd/index.asp
- State-wide data priorities
- Ron W. said that the Full GISTC is a method for getting the message of state GIS needs to the Feds and asked the group what message he should take back.
- NAIP
- Bob N. asked who would miss not having updated NAIP if it wasn't available for 2007, then 2008, then 2009. As the years increased so did the number of hands going up.
- Dan J. and Ron W. said that some states are doing absolute accuracy for their NAIP.
- Matt S. said that those with a definite need for NAIP should be trying to help fund upcoming NAIP collections.
- Carl D. said that in Williston, the NAIP doesn't help the city all that much due to it's resolution being 1-meter, he would prefer higher resolution. Their last high-resolution imagery was done in 2003, needs to update that to reflect the new homes.
- Levi E. said that for the Land Department 1-meter NAIP is good enough
The meeting ended at about 2:30 PM.
