July 2009: New Hub Explorer
The Hub Explorer is a browser-based interactive mapping tool that displays GIS Hub layers, grouped by data category. With this tool you can zoom, pan, query, print maps, and download vector data. The first version of the Hub Explorer is being phased out and will be switched off sometime after the end of July 2009. Before it is switched off it will retain existing functionality except the DATA EXTRACT option which will be removed.
The new version of the Hub Explorer is based on new software that provides the functionality of the first Hub Explorer but adds substantially more features. Some examples include:
- Extract Data: Data to be extracted can be selected via a query or geographically; new download formats are now available
- Bookmarks: Save areas of the map to be returned to at a later time
- Save Project: Saves your session so that when you return at a later time, the map will reappear the way you left it
- Print to PDF: Multiple templates are available
- Extract image: Saves the map on the screen to a .bmp or .tif for pasting into a document
- Map Markup: Draw and add text to the map
- Upload Data: Add external data such as a shapefile to the map
- Map Visualization: Select a point on the map for display in other tools such as Google Map
- Dynamic Layer Themes: Change the symbolization of selected layers
