The U.S. Geological Survey and its partners have made great strides toward implementing The National Map, an internet access to seamless, base geospatial data for the nation. Work in 2004 has focused on making data available through a common, web-based user interface. The USGS has established a variety of partnerships with Federal, State, and local governments, as well as the private sector, to provide data in The National Map. Development of The National Map catalog has made the inclusion of partners' existing web map services in The National Map easier, using an Open GIS Consortium (OGC)-compliant interface. The National Map standards have been developed in conjunction with Geospatial One-Stop standards and are currently under review. Mapping Partnership Offices allow USGS staff to work more closely with state and local partners to integrate and serve.
