Professional Development Guidelines
The Education Standards and Practices Board is the agency which approves professional development as acceptable for license renewal in the State of North Dakota. The ESPB, as part of its role, developed a model for schools to use as they seek to improve professional development, and continues to work to assess state needs, and project programs responsive to those needs. In this role, the ESPB has developed Professional Development Guidelines and has completed an evaluation of the status of professional development in the state (Professional Development Guidelines Project Evaluation 1995-1999). Over 300 individuals across the state have been trained on the use of the model. Information on trainers available can be obtained from the office of the ESPB or any of the state's Teacher Learning Centers.

Quality Professional Development Standards Project
The Quality Professional Development Standards Project operated in the state from 1995-2002. The grant activities were funded by Goals 2000 and conducted collaboratively by Valley City Public Schools (VCPS), the Greater Barnes County Consortium of schools (GBCC), the Education Standards and Practices Board (ESPB) and the North Dakota Teacher Center Network (NDTCN). The purpose of the grant was to identify best practices in professional development in North Dakota and at the national level, design a user-friendly model for professional development planning and delivery aligned with the education improvement process, and deliver training to educators across the state.
