What has the National Board Certifcation done for me?

"There is the personal satisfaction of knowing I am doing the "right thing" in my teaching. I am much more analytical in my lesson plans/ evaluation techniques. I feel I have more confidence to follow what I feel is the right approach, rather than relying on a manual to tell me what to do."

Ruby Lawler
St. John, ND

"The National Board process provided me a challenging opportunity to examine and reflect on my practice as an educator, and their standards continue to serve as an important resource today."

David Bartz
Mandan, ND

"The National Board process was the best professional development I have ever completed.  It allowed me to work with my own students, addressing their needs, in my own school.  It helped me to become a more reflective educator."

Amy Benz
Beulah, ND

"I was certified in young adult language arts in 2004.  Partly because of my certification,  I was asked to serve on the national PRAXIS committee evaluating that test last summer in New Jersey.  As a follow up to that, I have been asked to develop English questions for the PRAXIS test.  Members of that committee came from all over the states from all different disciplines; the one thing we had in common is that we were all board certified. In short, National Board Certification has allowed me to become even more involved in education and to work with other dedicated, excellent teachers.  The pay wasn't bad either."

Gail Beaudoin
Bismarck, ND

"The National Board Certification process was affirming in that after completing the portfolio entries, which contained copious details of some major units of study with my students, I found out that what I am doing in the classroom is in line with what constitutes quality teaching and learning."

Julia Koble
Minot, ND

"Now that I've gone through the process my teaching has a new direction. Everything I do in the classroom has a reason...meeting a certain standard, meeting the needs of a different style of learner, meeting best practices of teaching,etc...  I think about all that I'm doing and why I'm doing it.

One more thing it's done for me is that it's made me not be afraid to try for something more.  I am in graduate school right now and there is a high level of work output, but I know that I completed my National Boards and I can complete whatever I need to.  I strive to always do my best and go above and beyond what is expected."

Anna Sell
Oakes, ND
