Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

Question:  On the Grant Application Cover Page it asks us for the number of mentors/first-year teachers and the number of students impacted this spring. But, on page 5, it state “If your project is selected, you will request specific numbers and locations of mentoring partnerships for spring 2010 and for school year 2010 – 11”.
I realize I will need to identify the school districts wanting to participate and get the signature of approval from their administrator, but do I estimate the number of new teachers and mentors or do I need to also get that number from the administrator as they sign for approval?

Answer:  There will be a specific form that will need to be filled out later for each first-year teacher/mentor pair that are requested, but we need to have pretty accurate counts in your applications of what will be needed for Spring 2010 so we can start making arrangements for training of mentors in December (I’m working on room arrangements now and need to know if we’ll have 50 or 400 mentors we need to train!)  We figure by this time, schools pretty accurately know who they’re working with this year … and then we’ll gather the info for next year later on.  So … getting that number from administrators as you gather signatures will be very helpful.

Question: As the project coordinator, do I have to go around and get signatures from each participating partner or can I have them sign a separate sheet and send or fax it to me?

Answer: We need an original signature from each partner so faxing them won’t work.  However, each partner can download a copy of the signature page for themselves (go to http://www.nd.gov/espb/progapproval/forms.html) and download the “Signatures of Authorizing Officials”), sign it and send it to the Project Coordinator for inclusion in the application.  It’s important for each signer to understand that their signature represents agreement with all of the assurances in the project so they should be familiar with what is in the document (which can also be accessed on our website).
