Substitute Teaching in North Dakota

We are pleased that you are interested in becoming a substitute teacher in North Dakota schools. As you may have heard, we are experiencing a shortage of substitute teachers in ND, and we are anxious to license qualified substitute teachers. In order to qualify for an Interim Substitute License in ND you must have completed at least 48 semester hours of college coursework, and submit a letter from a ND school administrator requesting the Substitute License on your behalf.

To apply for an Interim Substitute License, you will first need to register for a login and password for an ND Teach account at https://secure.apps.nd.gov/dpi/ndteach/Login.aspx. Once you have created a login and password, you may login and create your application.
After your application has been submitted, you will need to submit:

  1. Official transcripts documenting at least 48 semester hours
  2. Letter from a ND school administrator requesting the license for you
  3. Completed fingerprint packet for the background check.

Fingerprinting forms and instructions can be printed from our website at http://www.nd.gov/espb/licensure/FingerprintingInstructions.pdf
