Training Opportunities List

The purpose of this document is to provide information about project management training for ND state government agencies (and other interested parties). The information was compiled by the ND EPM Advisory Group*, however no particular training course is recommended over another. If you have questions about the content and time offerings of a course, please contact the individuals listed. For general questions, you can contact epmadmin@state.nd.us.

*The EPM Advisory Group is a small committee of agency project managers who develop project management best practices and other related deliverables.

Description: This course provides an introduction to the various concepts of Project Management. The primary goal of this course is to equip students with the tools to become effective and efficient managers of projects. The focus of this course will begin with laying the foundation of basic introductory terminology, and progress to the phases, process groups, and knowledge management areas of project management. The course will also focus on developing an in-depth understanding of actually managing a project. Another key aspect of the class will be to learn the fundamental tools in Microsoft Project 2002, which is the most popular project management tool in today's business world. In addition, this course will serve to meet the classroom hours required to be eligible to take the PMP Certification exam, and, the CAPM Certification exam under the auspices of Project Management International.

A review of project management software is also included. People are a vital element of a project therefore selecting the right team members, building the team, gaining commitment, organizational structures, power and politics in project management will be discussed.
