Community correction programs have been strategically placed state wide in an effort to provide services to all fifty-three counties within the state. Major programs exist in the following cities/towns: Bismarck, Dickinson, Williston, Minot, Rugby, Devils Lake, Grand Forks, Fargo, Wahpeton, Jamestown, and Litchville.
The community correction programs work in a cooperative effort with the North Dakota Parole/Probation Division to enhance community partnerships while providing community-based alternatives to detention. The community-based alternatives focus on protecting society, addressing the concerns of crime victims, and providing supervision to offenders in the community. Criminal adult offenders and juveniles are referred to a local community corrections program through the courts, juvenile or adult probation officers and/or local state attorney’s office. These offenders are generally referred for the purposes of performing community service, are in arrearages for supervision fees, or child support payments, court ordered restitution, fines, and fees.
