NDSP: Housing Units

West Unit

The West Unit is a three tier, 60 single cell general housing unit for males. There are 20-single cells on each tier. This housing unit is assigned to hold all inmate custody levels; minimum, medium, and maximum. Residents in this housing unit are controlled and monitored during scheduled meals, work, treatment, education, and recreation. Unit management staffs oversee the daily operations of the unit. Residents residing in the West Unit are assigned a staff caseworker for fielding issues/concerns and for release preparation. Unit Management Staff in the West Unit maintain accountability of their assigned residents at all times.

WU management staff will conduct 30-day contacts with the residents assigned to this area. The WU case manager will assist the resident with discharge planning 90-days prior to release.

Other Unit Management Duties:

• Re–Classification
• Adjudication of minor incident reports
• Serve as a member on the Disciplinary Committee in hearing major incident reports
• Acknowledge receipt of grievances and seek informal resolution
• Parole plans
• Case plans
• Monthly contacts
• Assist in the rehabilitation of offenders
