The East Unit is the institution’s largest male unit, with 159 single person cells. The size and nature of the cells do not allow for double bunking. The East Unit is an open unit. The unit is comprised of four levels consisting of two tiers per level. There are twenty single person cells on each tier. Each cell is equipped with a sink, a toilet, a wall shelf, a desk lamp, a desk and chair, a metal night stand and a metal bed frame with a flame-retardant mattress and pillow.
The East unit is a general population housing unit comprised of inmates with custody levels that range from minimum to maximum custody. Most of the inmates assigned to the East Unit come for the Orientation Unit. Some inmates are placed in the East Unit due to release from Administrative Segregation after showing positive behavior in that unit and approved by staff. Inmates may be placed in the East Unit from other units when negative behavior, security concerns and or noncompliance to treatment and education recommendations are not adhered.
The mission of the East Unit is to provide a safe and secure housing unit for male inmates, while providing an environment that affords the opportunity to seek treatment, education, employment, medical, religious and wellness activities to aid in the rehabilitative process of the inmate.
The East Unit is supervised by one Unit Manger, two Case Managers, three Correctional Caseworkers and a minimum of three unit Correctional Officers. The Unit Management staff and officers will monitor behavior and compliance to treatment, education and work. Each inmate will be assigned to a Unit Management staff. The Unit Management staff will conduct 30 day contacts with each inmate. The Unit Management staff will make recommendations for preferred housing and employment, work on release plans, parole plans and assist inmates with any other issues or concerns they may have.
