Adult Corrections: Transitional Facilities
Tompkins Rehabilitation and Corrections Center
VISITATION POLICY
PURPOSE: To outline the program expectations in the Tompkins Rehabilitation and Corrections Center (TRCC) programs regarding resident visitors.
POLICY: All residents and visitors will adhere to TRCC visitor’s policies defining visitation times and appropriate behavior.
PROCEDURES:
- All arrangements for visitation must be made through the team. The ward office has request forms available. Residents must present a list of potential visitors to the team for approval. Before any visits are approved, the DOCR will complete an NCIC check to rule out any warrants or protection orders. Visitors are limited to family and friends as approved by the team. An approved adult visitor must accompany individuals under the age of 18. Written consent from parent or guardian is required. Visitors must bring a picture I.D.
- NCIC check will be required for all visitors. The case manager will make arrangements for this through the DOCR case manager and will need the name, middle initial, address and date of birth or social security number of prospective visitors.
- The counselor will keep the approved visitor’s list updated and 11-7 staff will update computer printouts. Copies of the visitor’s list will be kept in a separate folder and also a copy in the front of each resident’s chart.
- Resident needs and programming will take priority over visitation. The resident will take responsibility to inform visitors of program scheduling including weekend programs i.e. Anger Management, Domestic Violence education, etc.
- Visits will take place in the Family Conference room on the GM main floor for residents in Level I and II. Residents in Level III and IV will visit in the GM Conference room. Visitors and/or residents who exhibit unacceptable behavior or attire will continue visitation only at the ward supervisor’s discretion. Pets are not allowed.
- Visitation for residents on Level I or who have a legal hold will be allowed to visit in the Tompkins Building on Sunday from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
- Former residents* will not be allowed visitation. They may visit with staff from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday at a location (for example, counselor’s office) away from the ward.
- Visiting hours are: 9:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday and 7:00pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Holidays will be the same as weekends. See visitation schedule on visitor guidelines policy for specific information about each ward.
- Visitors will leave their purses, coats, etc. outside of the visiting area. Diaper bags must be left outside the visiting area; necessities such as baby bottles or diapers can be brought in after being checked by staff. Visitors are not allowed to bring any other items to the visiting area. Food cannot be ordered for delivery during visitation.
- Visitation requests may be subject to time limitations if there are too many visitors scheduled for one day. Any exceptions to visitation time or visitors will be dealt with on an individual basis by the treatment team.
- Visit requests are discarded after visits are complete. Visitor’s slips are filed in Miscellaneous section of the chart.
* Exceptions may be made for family members who are former residents.
