Child Support Enforcement (CSE)
Employers: Payments
Common Errors
Error 2: Employer does not provide the remittance identifier
Problem: Without a remittance identifier (a number assigned by child support enforcement programs to identify the employee), it is impossible to know to which child support case the payment should be applied. Providing only the name of the employee is often not enough information to be able to process the payment. Many obligors share the same name.
Appropriate Action: Employers must provide a remittance identifier for each payment remitted. The remittance identifier can be found on the income withholding order.
