Community Action Head Start serves Adams, Billings, Bowman, Dunn, Golden Valley, Hettinger, Slope and Stark Counties in North Dakota through a Dickinson Center Base, Hettinger County Center Base, and Home Base Program Service Options. The Dickinson Center Base program option serves 105 children in morning or afternoon sessions Monday through Thursday. The Hettinger County Center Base option serves 15 – 17 children and is located in the Mott-Regent Public School in Regent and provides a full day option Monday through Thursday with busing services from Mott to Regent. While children are in attendance, they receive breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. The home base program option is available throughout all eight counties with a trained home visitor making weekly home visits to provide resources to the parents/guardians to assist them in working with their child on age appropriate school readiness activities throughout the week. Twice a month for three hours, the children and their parents/guardians meet at a socialization site for parent training and classroom activities for the children. The Head Start teachers hold North Dakota teaching licenses with early childhood education credentials and the home base visitors hold either a teaching credential, social work license and/or child development associate/family development specialist credentials. In addition to the teaching staff, a licensed social worker is on staff to assist families in meeting their own goals through accessing resources available throughout the community. Finally, a licensed nurse monitors the children’s health needs to ensure that each child is healthy and “ready to learn”.
