Children and Family Services

The North Dakota child welfare system is county administered and state supervised. The Children and Family Services Division is responsible for many programs and services and sets policies and procedures for child welfare services offered and delivered statewide.

Most of the state's child welfare services are provided directly through 19 human service zones (formerly 53 county social service offices). The Children and Family Services Division has administrative staff assigned to various jurisdictions across the state to offer public agencies support, technical assistance and continuous quality improvement related to child protection, in-home and foster care case practice.
