August 18, 2004
BISMARCK, N.D. – The Governor’s Committee on Aging in cooperation with the North Dakota Department of Human Services and other sponsors is hosting a series of forums September 20-23 in four western North Dakota communities to generate discussion about national, state, and local issues affecting older Americans.
The forums will cover a variety of topics including community-based services, long term care needs, prescription drug assistance, vulnerable adult protective services, and other issues and will feature keynote presenter, Susan Reinhard co-director of Rutgers Center for State Health Policy and deputy commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. Reinhard will share information about how New Jersey is transforming its long term care and senior service system to better address consumer choice. AARP North Dakota is sponsoring her presentation, which is titled, “Long Term Care, You Decide Where: Lessons From New Jersey.”
AARP state director Janis Cheney said, “Many states are considering ways to reform their health care systems, particularly in the area of long term care and in-home support services. Dr. Reinhard has been at the forefront of system reform in her state, and we are pleased to be able to bring her to North Dakota to share her expertise.”
Forums will be held September 20 in Bismarck at the Senior Center, September 21 in Dickinson at Hillside Baptist Church, September 22 in Williston at the Heritage Center, and September 23 at the Minot Commission on Aging.
The registration deadline is September 10. Registration will be handled locally. Transportation and lunch are available at most sites with reservations.
