BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced that the Mayville Fire Department will receive a grant totaling $102,956 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The grant award will be used to enhance operations and safety.
The grant program, administered by DHS's Office for State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), was established to ensure that America's first responders have the resources they need to protect their communities and themselves.
AFG awards are intended to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the safety of the public. These grants enable local fire departments to purchase or receive training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response vehicles.
Since FY 2001, and including FY 2007, over $18.2 million in AFG funding has been distributed to 289 North Dakota fire departments and first responder organizations to purchase response equipment, personal protective equipment, vehicles and support fire prevention activities.
