BISMARCK, N.D. - Gov. John Hoeven today announced two North Dakota fire departments will receive grants totaling $102,523 from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. The Casselton Fire Department will receive a $43,349 grant and the Elgin Fire Protection District will receive a grant for $59,174 from the AFG program.
The grant program, administered by DHS' Office for State and Local Government Coordination and Preparedness (SLGCP) in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA), was established to ensure that America' first responders have the resources they need to protect their communities and themselves.
Since FY 2001, and including FY 2007, over $18.2 million in AFG funding has been distributed to 289 North Dakota fire departments and first responder organizations to purchase response equipment, personal protective equipment, vehicles and support fire prevention activities.
