Location: Bismarck
add to outlook calendar

This workshop is designed for local government officials, state officials, and others who are involved in the development of a local hazard mitigation plan. This workshop will include an expanded section on Risk Assessment, due to high level of interest for additional technical support in this area.

The purpose of the workshop is to provide guidance on developing or updating local hazard mitigation plans to meet the requirements of Title 44 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 201.6 for FEMA approval and eligibility to apply for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance grant programs. Participants will learn practical approaches and examples for how communities can engage in effective planning to reduce long-term risk from natural hazards and disasters. The workshop is organized into four half-day modules that cover the planning process, risk assessment, mitigation strategy, and implementing the plan to increase community resilience. Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be able to: define hazard mitigation and the benefits of mitigation planning, develop or update a local hazard mitigation plan, and identify resources and guidance available for mitigation planning and plan implementation.

The course will be held from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm each day at the Comfort Inn, 1030 E Interstate Ave, Bismarck, ND.

A minimum of 15 students are required to hold this course. If the minimum registration target is not met, FEMA instructors will not be able to travel to ND. Please register early.

A block of rooms will be held at the Comfort Inn (701-223-1911) and/or Comfort Suites (701-223-4009) until August 30, 2013. Please ask for the Hazard Mitigation Planning Course block of rooms. Lodging and meal per diem will be reimbursed for eligible participants according to state policy.
