Governor Jack Dalrymple declares fire emergency

Governor Jack Dalrymple today declared a fire emergency for the state in response to dry conditions, unseasonably high temperatures and high winds. In his executive order, Dalrymple issued a burn ban for areas in the North Dakota Fire Danger Rating designated as "High," "Very High," or "Extreme," and/or when a Red Flag Warning has been issued for an area. Burning will be allowed in designated areas with a "Low" or "Moderate" Fire Danger Rating if approved by the local fire response authority that has jurisdiction over the area.

North Dakota Fire Map

Fire Weather Forecasts are issued by the National Weather Service and are located at their website: (http://www.weather.gov/bis/fire

Although not very often, there are times when weather conditions that develop during the day result in a change to fire conditions. Fire conditions which are significantly different (change by one or more categories) than what was issued at 6:00 am, the NWS will provide an update.

These updates are more likely to occur in early spring and fall where slight changes in temperature, relative humidity and/or wind speed have a larger impact to the fire danger. CHECK FOR UPDATES BEFORE YOU BURN.

Burn Restrictions and Fire Declarations

The following map depicts counties/tribes where fire emergencies have been declared and burn bans/restrictions implemented. Please note many are only in effect if the daily Fire Danger Index (FDI) is in the HIGH, VERY HIGH, or EXTREME category and/or if there is a Red Flag Warning; others are in effect regardless of the situation.

By clicking on the county/tribe on the map below you can view additional information regarding burn bans/restrictions for a particular area.

THIS LIST IS NOT ALL INCLUSIVE. CONTACT YOUR LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGER FOR THE MOST CURRENT INFORMATION AND SPECIFIC RESTRICTIONS.
