North Dakota's Secondary Commercial Art program emphasizes comprehensive commercial art production skills, including typography, layout and design, computer-assisted programs, electronic page make-up, paste-up process photography, and planning and estimating. This is accomplished through a competency-based curriculum that allows students to progress at their own speed and work on "live" production work. Students also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and people skills through participation in SkillsUSA.

Graphic Arts emphasizes comprehensive graphic arts production skills including typography, layout and design, computer-assisted typesetting, electronic page make-up and paste-up, process photography, offset press, finishing operations, and planning and estimating. Emphasis is on successfully completing those processes in a manner that duplicates the methods, equipment, and jobs common to the graphic arts industry. This is accomplished through a competency-based curriculum that allows students to progress at their own speed and work on "live" production work. Students also have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and people skills through participation in SkillsUSA.
